JAE Carpet Cleaning

Earwigs

Earwigs are a common garden pest that can find their way inside homes in large numbers, particularly during hot, dry weather when they are seeking moisture. While they are mostly harmless to humans and do not cause structural damage, they can damage seedlings and plants in the garden and their pincer-like tails make them an unwelcome sight indoors.

JAE can treat both interior and exterior areas to reduce earwig numbers and advise on conditions around your property that may be attracting them.

Earwigs are nocturnal insects that shelter in damp areas such as garden beds, mulch, and under pot plants by day, often moving indoors through gaps around doors and windows. While not dangerous, large numbers become a real nuisance inside the home and in gardens, where they damage seedlings and soft plants. Wet seasons typically drive a sharp increase in activity around homes.

JAE treats both the harbourage areas outdoors — mulch beds, leaf litter, and the foundations of the building — and the entry points into the home with residual insecticides. The combined treatment reduces the outdoor population and stops the survivors getting inside while the residual is active.

Our technician will identify the harbourage areas around the property and explain practical changes — pulling mulch back from the walls, sealing gaps under doors, and improving drainage — that reduce the conditions earwigs need to thrive close to the building.
