Bed bugs are a surprisingly common problem across New Zealand and are notoriously difficult to eliminate once established. They hide in mattress seams, bed frames, and soft furnishings, emerging at night to feed on sleeping humans and leaving behind itchy, red bite marks. Bed bugs can also hitchhike into your home via second-hand furniture, luggage, and clothing, meaning even the cleanest properties can be affected.
JAE uses specialist treatments to target bed bugs at all life stages, including eggs, to break the cycle and clear the infestation.
Bed bugs are one of the hardest pests to eliminate without professional help. The adults hide deep in mattress seams, bed frames, skirting boards, and behind power outlets, while the eggs and juveniles can survive for months between feeds. A single missed life stage will re-start the infestation, so a full eradication needs to reach every stage in one coordinated treatment.
JAE begins with a detailed inspection of the bedroom and surrounding areas to confirm the extent of the infestation and identify all harbourage points. We then apply a combination of targeted chemical treatments and, where appropriate, heat-based treatments to penetrate fabrics and timber where bed bugs hide. A follow-up visit is usually scheduled to deal with any eggs that hatch after the first treatment.
You’ll be given clear preparation instructions before the visit — laundering bedding on a hot wash, vacuuming mattresses, and decluttering — along with aftercare advice including mattress encasements and how to inspect on return from travel, which is the most common source of an outbreak.
